The Day of Our Founding

Blog Image-2.webp.png

July 10, 2014

July 10th is a proud day in the history of our NPO. The IRS awarded our company 501(c)(3) tax exempt status and our mission began.

in 1995, our founder was toiling in the bowels of the finance arm of one of America's largest automakers. Tops at his craft, he won a brand new sports car in a national sales contest. He and his friends were the top sales people across a number of departments. The group of four became known as the Wrecking Crew.

Common to running afoul of the rules, the Wrecking Crew took frequent advantage of their sales prowess to arrive late and play fast and loose with the one-hour they got for lunch. Known by management to waste copious amounts of time talking amongst themselves their legend was finally cemented on a sunny afternoon when the Crew arrived back from a lengthy lunch to pass right by the Senior VP, let's call him Dana.

Our illustrious leader stomped on the gas pedal and lit up the rear tires on his bright red prize engulfing the boss in a cloud of tire smoke. â€‹

Wrecking Crew Gives is Born

The next morning, to no one's surprise, each of the Wrecking Crew had a note on their desk to report to Dana.

"I know you guys." He began. "I know about the Wrecking Crew" he continued. "And I know you know I can't touch you guys, your sales are too good and too important to my division. But, I also, know what the Wrecking Crew is. A bunch of takers. That's all you do is take, take, take."

Amused by their new found prominence and omnipotence, the Crew returned to work, the cats that ate the canary.

Decades later in time, a lifetime later in growth, a charity was founded to return some of the good fortune life had bestowed. Now, the Wrecking Crew Gives.

A Decade Later...

Our size is small, but our reach is far.
  • Water wells installed in sub-saharan Africa bringing water to villages who previously had to walk miles for what we all take for granted standing at a faucet.
  • Substantial support raised and delivered to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
  • Delivering computing to under-served populations in Chicago.
  • Financial aid for graduate students struggling to take that next step in Las Vegas
All done with the passion of personal involvement and engagement. Now, Wrecking Crew Gives
begins its most personal ambitions endeavor yet. The David Kay Koeppel Memorial Fund.
